About Me

I’m a middle aging system administrator for a local nameless college here in Calgary Alberta Canada. That’s Alberta Canada, no no, not in Texas. North of Montana. I grew up here in Alberta, then I lived in BC (the one above Washington, and not DC) for 7 years and moved back here and eventually to Calgary. We have a smaller house in a decent part of the city very close to my work and my wife’s work too.

I’m married. jhb and I were married in our house here in Calgary on May 24th 2004, one month and ten days after she moved here from Washington. I think she likes it here, but she is Hawaiian and the winters in Calgary are cold at times. We met on Al Gore’s Global Intarweb. If you understand that, you’re OK.

I have four kids which are all boys. My youngest (her first) was born August of 2006.

I started looking after my health better in 2003 after attending a Geek function called OLS. Then, I started riding my bike more to work and tried multiple times to stop smoking. Since that time I’ve lost weight, stopped smoking, stopped drinking and eat a mostly vegetarian diet with the occasional special day feast foods.

I bike, run, snowboard, walk, talk, and can whistle too. I’ve never been able to swim well so I likely won’t do an Iron Man any time soon. I may take a personal trainer course at work that they are offering, it sounds fun and fits in my head space fairly well.

I’ve been a sysadmin since about 1994, which is long enough to know better. I know I won’t make management, which is fine with me. I had a stint as a supervisor but that really isn’t where my talent is. My talent is making things work, and that’s what I do on a day to day basis. If you have things that don’t work, I can likely fix them.

We have a dog and 4 cats.
